Diamond Evaluation Process

To insure the most accurate grading of your diamond and receive the highest offer, first your diamond is evaluated with a 10x power gem grading loupe by two members of our staff. For diamonds without credible certificates, the diamond needs to be removed for accurate evaluation. We have a diamond setter/goldsmith on the premises. We then reevaluate your diamond with state-of-the-art diamond grading equipment that measures all characteristics of your diamond except clarity, fluorescence and polish. With an accurate evaluation we can provide you with the highest possible offer, which is based on marked prices and demand both locally and internationally.

GIA Diamond Phone Offer

With a GIA (Gemological Institute of America) diamond certificate, we will be able to provide you with a valid offer right over the phone or emailed to you. GIA consistently provides the most accurate diamond grading of any lab in the world. We even have a GIA gemologist on staff. If you are selling a diamond worth more than $5,000, it may be worth it to submit to GIA lab testing to increase the value. Count on about two weeks for the process to be completed. Culet
Looking through the table (top) of a diamond, the diamond’s culet should not be visible.

Depth Percentage of Diamonds
Ratio of the total depth of the diamond (from table to culet) as compared with the total diameter.

Diamond Color Range
Colors for diamonds range from colorless to fancy yellow.

Cut
The quality of a diamond’s cut refers to the expertise of the diamond cutter in creating overall proportions, symmetry and finish.

Diamond Fluorescence
Fluorescence lowers the value, and can cause a diamond to appear milky in some lighting.

Diamond Shapes
A fancy shape pushes the value down 15% to 40% less than a plain round cut diamond.

Symmetry of Diamonds
How closely the angles of the upper part of the diamond (crown) and the lower part (pavilion) of the diamond match up.

Diamond Girdle
Too thick or too thin is not as desirable as medium or slightly thick

Measurements
A fancy-shaped cut diamond is described in length-to-width measurements.

Table Percentage
The ratio of the table width as compared to the total width.
